Watch out for transits to your natal Chiron

by Milky Way Maid
If you recall, last December I mentioned that a transit to my natal Chiron may have been responsible for a rough fall on some ice. It really got me down and kept me from getting out more this winter. But it made me look back at other transits to Chiron. Wow, what an eye-opener that has been! I would have been a lot more cautious about making a decision when affected by those transits, because they generally did not work out at all.

First, my natal Chiron is in Aquarius. That explains why the fall raised a bump on my lower leg and sprained an ankle. Chiron also roughly squares both my Mercury and my Sun.

What set off this personal inquiry was failing miserably at a guessing game last weekend. Usually I am fairly good, so it was really frustrating to feel like I was jinxed! Looking back thru my ephemeris, I located times when major and minor planets were conjunct. As you know, Neptune has been in a long transit thru Aquarius, and the exchange between Neptune and Uranus (each in the other's ruling sign) has been good for Aquarians and Pisces.

Not until Neptune got about three degrees past my natal Chiron did my mood and mental abilities really start to feel more like normal. (although while it was retrograding back from the exact aspect, I again did pretty well)

Let's not go all the way back to the Uranus transit which was almost a decade ago; that too was a very painful period.

Let's just deal with the more recent observations and with the inner planets. It is useful for me to use my game-playing as one measure of how I am operating mentally. Transiting Venus does not seem as negative as the other planets. Still my game-playing went wacko December 23, when Venus made an exact conjunction to natal Chiron. Fortunately I was only playing for points that time because I knew I was a little off that day.

January, as I have now realized, is always a bit iffy for me when it comes to making decisions. All too often I have been unable to decide anything, and if forced to, I guess wrong. This has been quite damaging if making decisions about financial matters, altho if I merely handed things over to a planner or the like, that was OK.

This year (2009), both Jupiter and Mercury entered Aquarius early in January. They did not contact my Chiron, however, till the end of February for Mercury, and late March for Jupiter. Alas Jupiter retrogrades and again contacts Chiron in Sept.-Oct., and yet again when direct for the rest of October. Sheesh, it's enough to make you feel persecuted.

I am not out of the woods during other months, because I have now discovered that the Moon in Aquarius is just as bad or worse. It seems like nothing I do on those days is right, and I wind up feeling the jinx is on me.

So there you have it, another astrological contact to watch out for. Be very careful of making any decisions on days when any planet is contacting your natal Chiron, whether it is personal planets like Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars – or outer planets like normally benefic Jupiter or troublesome Uranus and Neptune. You may really need to bounce things off a trusted friend before doing (or not doing) anything.

And for gosh sakes, don't go to Vegas when Sun or Moon is on your Chiron.

Your Milky Way Horoscope March 29-April 4

By Milky Way Maid

The Sun will be conjunct Mercury in Aries Monday at 11:29 PM Eastern; schedule a brainstorming session or just record your thoughts in a journal a half-hour before to a half-hour after the exact aspect.

Venus in Aries squares Pluto in Capricorn on Friday, leading to obsessive thoughts about a love object. Such as “if I can't have him/her, I'd rather die”. Or the Romeo and Juliet syndrome. Wonder if there will be any further developments in the Rihanna saga.

Saturday is probably going to be a frustrating day for a lot of you; Mars opposes Saturn about 9 pm Eastern, at 16 degrees of Pisces-Virgo. All the mutable signs will be affected (that means Sag and Gemini, too). Forget about starting any new project, and get lots of help moving heavy objects. Probably sports events (Mars) will have surprising results, too, and lots of people following the March Madness series will find their fave teams have been eliminated. Saturn is honors and awards (as well as tough things like losses and hearing the word no), so the honors will go to those who have worked hard and long to progress to the level they are at today.

Readers can follow not only their Sun sign horoscope but also the sign of their Ascendant for further clues to how your week will develop.

ARIES - March 20-April 19 – Sun and Mercury are conjunct Monday in Aries; you will be hitting all cylinders in terms of presenting yourself and communicating and connecting with others. Schedule presentations or sales talks. The Mars-Saturn opposition affects your twelfth and sixth houses; at worst you could wind up in the hospital so take extra care. At best it may mean that people in your family are affected rather than yourself. On Friday, Venus in your sign squares Pluto in Capricorn (your tenth house of career) and I fear the worst interpretation is a layoff. But it could just mean a delay in a paycheck or being sent home early; make sure you have cash on hand tho.

TAURUS - April 20-May 20 – The Moon is in Taurus from the previous weekend till Monday morning. Sunday the Moon is trine Saturn early then squares Jupiter; perhaps you get some chores out of the way early and reward yourself with a nice brunch afterward. The Moon then sextiles Uranus in the evening; relax with a comedy/TV/foreign film. Square to Neptune at late night; not a good time to drink and your mind will get easily confused without alcohol, too. Make lists to keep yourself on track. The Mars-Saturn opposition affects your houses of friends/clubs and of children/arts/recreation. Perhaps a planned club outing will have to be canceled; chin up. Vesta is in late degrees of Taurus thru the 9th; a good time to examine your budget, stock up the shelves and cocoon.

GEMINI - May 21-June 20 – The Moon is in Gemini from Mon. morn till midday Wed. Mon. has an inconjunct to Pluto; you might have to erase everything you have done and start over. That evening has a sextile to Venus so spend quality time with a loved one. Gemini starts Tues. with sextiles to Sun-Mercury; you might be even more the multi-tasking-Master than usual even before your commute. Squares to Mars and Saturn keep you hopping all morning, tho. You get a bit of a break or help in late afternoon (finally!). Wed. starts with a trine to Neptune denoting an inspiring lift from a morning program, or just from a pre-work swim. Pallas Athena is in the late degrees of Gemini thru this weekend; she is stronger now and you could earn promotions, or do fabulous handcrafts. Pallas is squaring Juno tho and this can mean huge stresses over conflicting demands between work and marriage.

CANCER - June 21-July 22 – The Moon is in Cancer from almost midday Wednesday till midday Friday. Cancerians may have to consult and console children caught up in the Venus-Pluto square. Tell them there are plenty of fish in the sea. Thursday you get a lot done with clear directives from your Aries boss and lots of energy from a Mars trine. That afternoon you can also clear a lot of routine items from your list, perhaps making improvements to email tools or the mail merge lists. Friday starts (5 am Eastern) with a trine to Uranus, perhaps you make a lucky find on the web, or a happy surprise comes your way. Later commuters (about 8 am Eastern) could meet snarls and jams.

LEO - July 23-Aug. 22 – The Moon is in Leo from midday Friday till the following Sunday afternoon. The Moon in Leo trines Venus Friday evening so spend lots of quality time with loved ones. Saturday has Mercury sextile Jupiter in your ninth and seventh houses; a spouse or partner has good news or can help resolve an issue. You also get a boost from a trine to Sun in Aries; should be a good day to teach, sell books (hold a reading), or be interviewed. The Mars-Saturn opposition affects your money houses so have enough cash on hand if there is a glitch with cash machines.

VIRGO - Aug. 23-Sept. 22 – Ceres retrogrades to the first degree of Virgo; she is shouting at you to plan a garden and grow your food supply; real labels at the store too for a real eye-opener. Ceres here is also the nurse so you may be nursing a sick family member thru illness and recovery. You have a real talent for that. You will also feel the brunt of the Mars-Saturn opposition this week, tho because of Ceres being activated I think that you will be looking after an ill family member. If anyone is well-prepared for any challenge, it is you so just keep on keeping on.

LIBRA - Sept. 23-Oct. 22 – Your seventh house is very active this month with all the inner planets in Aries now; bask in your partner's rays and enjoy simple outings together. Days when the Moon is in Gemini or Leo are best, as well as in your own sign. This week, the Moon sextile Venus in Aries Monday night (and trines Venus Friday night) is very romantic, great for a date to chat and catch up. The trine to Jupiter Thursday favors counseling. The Mars-Saturn opposition affects your twelfth and sixth houses; it could mean a trip to the hospital for you or a family member, hopefully just for a checkup!

SCORPIO - Oct. 23-Nov. 21 – The Moon in Cancer midday Wednesday thru midday Friday gives you your best opportunities for a positive week. And Thursday there's a grand trine between Moon, Mars, and natal Suns around 14 degrees Scorpio; woo-hoo, sports especially are favored. The Mars-Saturn opposition on Saturday affects your eleventh and fifth houses; probable conflicts at club meetings so you may as well skip them, and no luck at sports gambling so forget that. Home is best that day, frankly.

SAGITTARIUS - Nov. 22-Dec. 21 – Tuesday's Gemini Moon trines Jupiter (your ruler) in Aquarius, so tour your own neighborhood with your spouse and find some luck. Friday evening's trine to Venus in Aries revs up your romance, sports and entertainment engines. The Mars-Saturn opposition on Saturday affects your fourth and tenth house; hopefully you will not have to work that day, and only have to concern yourself with home repairs or family issues.

CAPRICORN - Dec. 22-Jan. 19 - Probably your best days this week are the ones with Moon in Cancer, Wednesday till Friday afternoon. Even tho you may have to referee some local conflict, you also have a sextile to Mars which you can use to work off frustrations. Home life is sunny and chatty with all the inner planets in your solar fourth house this month. The Mars-Saturn opposition on Saturday affects your third and ninth houses, both rule communications. Perhaps your phone/internet access will be interrupted, so that can be a pain. If you have a legal matter pending, an unfavorable decision can come down Friday. Students may have problems getting classes they need to graduate. As always, be careful driving, too.

AQUARIUS - Jan. 20-Feb. 17 - Your best days this week have the Moon in Gemini, Monday thru mid-Wednesday. Enjoy exploring local venues as patio seating re-opens for the summer; get a feel for the local scene and local economy. The asteroid Juno will be in the late degrees of your sign till this weekend; take advantage of her extra power and adjust or enrich your partnerships. The Mars-Saturn opposition on Saturday affects your money houses, and like Leo's message, make sure you have cash on hand in case the cash machines are on the fritz.

PISCES - Feb. 18-March 19 - money matters look up as all the inner planets enter and activate Aries. The Sun-Mercury conjunction on Monday night can bring good news regarding money or resources. Thursday's Moon in Cancer trines Mars in your sign; great for fun, entertainment, kids, and sports. The Mars-Saturn opposition on Saturday affects your self and partners. Really, you have no good reason to demand that your partner move out, but you will probably do it anyway. Think twice, please.

How Many Leos Does it Take to Change a Light Bulb?

by Milky Way Maid
He'll jump up to change it right away, but if you don't have the right size/type bulb, he'll forget all about it. If you wait a half hour for anything, he'll forget about it and go on to the next chore.
Taurus: Wait, I'm not ready to change the bulb. I have to move the stack of ironing out of the way and them I'll go down to the basement and dig out a bulb. Serves me right for buying whatever's on sale; they never last. OK, now I've got it, now where is that Aries?
Gemini: Too busy answering emails and phone messages to actually do it. Is surveying everyone he knows about which brands are best.
Cancer: Loves every task involved in keeping up her beloved home, sweet home. Is only too glad to give her precious home a new light bulb.
Leo: Why don't we rip out the old fixture and put in makeup lights around the bathroom mirror? How can I possibly look my best if I have to use this 50s-era bathroom to prepare for my entrance??
Virgo: Yes, Virgo has an assortment of new bulbs in organized trays by size and wattage in the basement. Takes 30 seconds to pull out a new one and efficiently replace the old one.
Libra: Honey, can we put in pink lights? They're so much more flattering. And can I hold the ladder for you, honey? You know I love it when we work on a projects together. What do you think, dear?
Scorpio: Can find his way around in the dark very well. Forget the light bulb. Just take my hand, honey, and trust me.
Sagittarius: Ooh, it'll be like roughing it. Let's camp out in the back yard, I can put up a tent in no time. How about it?
Capricorn: Don't get excited, it's very simple and routine. Call Virgo to efficiently replace the bulb and bill me.
Aquarius: Better check the continuity on that lamp, it could be the wiring. Better yet, maybe we should rewire the whole house; this is a safety issue!
Pisces: Why does this house hate me? Last month it was the plumbing leak. Next month it'll probably be the roof flying off. Take me now, Lord.

Your Milky Way Horoscope March 22-28

By Milky Way Maid

The New Moon is in 6 degrees of Aries on March 26 at 12:06 pm Eastern time. You can take advantage of a cazimi aspect a half-hour before or after the exact conjunction in your time zone. This is supposed to be a wonderful opportunity to start off a new project/business, etc. that you want to succeed. It can even be a job hunt; so fire off mass emails to personnel offices. (Use blind carbon copy!)

Readers can follow not only their Sun sign horoscope but also the sign of their Ascendant for further clues to how your week will develop.

ARIES - March 20-April 19 – The Sun in Aries squares Pluto in Capricorn on Mon. afternoon; tug-of-wars are not a good idea in the office so try to finesse things. It may also mean scrapping equipment that keeps breaking down. The Moon is in Aries from Wed. night till Sat. morn. In fact, both the Moon and Mercury enter Aries Wed., so life's tempo should definitely quicken. You may feel a bit moody at first, but find connecting with others (women) comes easily, and may get a few uncanny hunches. BTW retrograding Venus will exit Aries by April 12, and re-enter Aries in direct motion April 24 (joining ruler Mars already in your sign by then). So April should definitely be even better, a real turnaround month.

TAURUS - April 20-May 20 – The Moon is in Taurus from Saturday morn thru the weekend. It looks like your morning will be spent either culling unneeded items from closets, or tilling/planting the garden. Either way it should be very productive, just be careful not to overlift. Relax that evening playing games with friends. Sunday poses a real temptation to overdo, with sweets especially. Have real fruit on hand to satisfy that sweet tooth. Vesta sextiles Uranus this week; a friend in need, indeed, picks you up off the floor.

GEMINI - May 21-June 20 – The asteroid Pallas Athena in Gemini squares Uranus in Pisces this week, your solar tenth house of career; a sudden windfall could come, like a customer contract (tho you may have to really pull teeth to get them to sign), a promotion, etc. Pallas also trines Juno, Neptune, and Chiron in Aquarius in your solar ninth house. The ninth house covers so much: legal matters, college, publishing, religion. If any of those are fields you are involved in, then you have an opportunity to move forward. You may have to make a presentation or send applications or something, but put your name in the hat.

CANCER - June 21-July 22 – The Sun squares Pluto on Monday, affecting your tenth and seventh houses respectively. A spouse could be under strain at work, or even laid off, or it could be that your job demands are conflicting with your spouse's needs. You know how to make a soothing home to come to, but do not allow your spouse to take things out on you. The situation is temporary and will pass. A friend lets you know about something free for the asking.

LEO - July 23-Aug. 22 – Saturn in your solar second house of money is inconjunct Jupiter in your solar seventh of partners. You may be able to renegotiate a contract with a business partner to make it more equitable; possibly you have been getting the short end of the stick! Your ruler the Sun (with Mercury on Wednesday) enters Aries, your solar ninth house. This begins to activate matters related to law, publishing, the press, national politics, college, religion. In a favorable way, so press forward.

VIRGO - Aug. 23-Sept. 22 – The asteroid Ceres in your sign is trine Pluto in Capricorn, and inconjunct the Sun in Aries. A spouse or child may latch onto an inheritance or lottery pool; hope you've nice to them! Saturn in your sign is exactly inconjunct Jupiter in Aquarius in your solar sixth house. One possibility is that medical problems can yield to professional intervention. Another one is that a low-level job may offer more hours or a raise.

LIBRA - Sept. 23-Oct. 22 – Home and family may be a source of strain with your spouse this week. Maybe he is frustrated over home (repair?) expenses, but that will pass. Aries is under the short-term influence of a Moon-Mercury conjunction, making him irritable. It's important to talk things thru. A consultant (including lawyers, pastors, brokers, advocates) may find a bit of windfall or breakthrough for you; ex: someone in your network gives you a job lead, or gives you a contact for a good doctor, etc.

SCORPIO - Oct. 23-Nov. 21 – Your ruler Pluto squares the Sun in Aries; this could mean a local development or re-development project may have need of your services. Mars in your solar fifth house energizes your artistic and fun energies. Look into local games leagues or teams, sign up for an art class, read to kids at the library, etc. Mars is asking you to come out and play. Saturn is inconjunct Jupiter this week; a friend (Saturn) may be able to do some work on your home (Aquarius) in exchange for whatever.

SAGITTARIUS - Nov. 22-Dec. 21 – Your ruler Jupiter (in your solar third house) is inconjunct Saturn in your solar tenth house of career. Perhaps you alert a sibling to a job opening at your own employer. Or vice versa. It can also mean an employer is downsizing and moves into a smaller local office. Adjustments, adjustments. But you are pretty good with rolling with the punches and adapting to a new office.

CAPRICORN - Dec. 22-Jan. 19 – Your ruler Saturn in your solar ninth house is inconjunct Jupiter in your second house. A financial or contractual adjustment may be made, hopefully in your favor but it may require a good rep to get it. If you are looking to get out of an unfavorable contract, this may be the week to do it. Pluto in your sign squares Sun in Aries in your fourth house of family and home. A family member may annoy you no end with his moping or grumpiness; set boundaries against rude behavior but talk things thru with this person.

AQUARIUS - Jan. 20-Feb. 17 – The Moon is in Aquarius from the weekend till Monday afternoon. A loving Moon-Venus aspect early Sunday starts off the day on an affectionate note; watch the sunrise together. Later that day you may realize that a Virgo is your rock of Gibraltar. The Monday commute may be more snarled than usual, or you may even take a wrong turn, so allow plenty of time to get to the office.

PISCES - Feb. 18-March 19 – The Moon is in Pisces from Monday afternoon till Wednesday evening. You have a deep talk with a friend Monday night. Tuesday morn you are raring to go early; so have a to-do list ready. Something may upset you emotionally midday Wednesday, but isn't that about normal for a Pisces? Sorry, I shouldn't make fun of Pisces' feelings. There, there, have a nice cup of tea and curl up with a good book and the cat.

Predicting 2009 March Madness Results with Astrology

by Milky Way Maid
Herewith are my predictions for the first round of matchups in the college basketball championships known as March Madness. Sports Astrology is a very specialized skill and craft, and wading into these waters is a real temptation for the astrology gods to laugh in your face. But anyway, here goes.

I will be using the scheduled tipoff time as the time for the chart. The favored team is the sign on the ascendant, and the opponent is the sign opposite, in the seventh house. Turn the chart if you need to do so, to visualize the chart of the opponent. There is a real difficulty with games that take a couple hours to play, like basketball and football, because the chart can change dramatically when the signs change over. Like I said, here goes.

Texas vs Minnesota. The pundits say an upset could happen here, and the stars concur. Texas has Libra rising with its ruler in the first house of its opponent, Minnesota-Aries. Also Aries' ruler Mars is sextile Pluto. It looks like Minnesota will dominate its opponent. Advantage: Minnesota.

Duke vs Binghamton. Duke has Scorpio rising and is square the nodes. Bing has Taurus on its
ascendant, with its ruler Venus retrograde and square the Moon. That does not help Bing much
astrologically. And Duke's co-rulers, Mars and Pluto, are sextile. Advantage: Duke.

Villanova vs American Univ. Libra rising again for Villanova, with a square to the Moon, and opposite Venus but in the sixth house this time. Descendant (American) is Aries with a retrograde Venus in its 12th house. Somehow American will shoot itself in the foot even tho the later quarters of the game may proceed better than the earlier quarters. A tricky call but Advantage: Villanova.

UCLA vs VCU. UCLA is Scorpio rising, square Jupiter in the 3rd house. Sextile Saturn at the top of the chart, which is promising. Descendant (VCU) is Taurus with ruler Venus retrograde in the chart's fifth house and square the Moon. I think the elevated Saturn is too much for VCU to overcome. Advantage: UCLA.

California vs Maryland. Cal has Scorpio rising, trining the Sun in the fourth house. Co-rulers sextile each other in the second and third houses. Descendant (Maryland) is Taurus with ruler Venus retrograde. However Taurus also sextiles the Sun in its eleventh house of friends and groups. Perhaps a fan continent will help them stay focused on doing their best. However, even tho most of the Scorpio charts will have the favored team winning, Maryland gets some help from the stars. Advantage: Maryland.

LSU vs Butler. Hmm, finally a Cancer ascendant for the favored team. This chart has a square to Venus in the tenth, and a sextile to Saturn in the third. Mixed results. The descendant (Butler) has Moon and Pluto in its twelfth house, and a trine to retrograde Saturn. This is a hard call, but the heavy affliction in the Butler twelfth house will shoot down its hopes. Advantage: LSU.

Memphis vs Cal State. Ascendant Virgo (Memphis) trines the Moon, and is conjunct Saturn in the first house. Saturn is honors here. The descendant (Cal St) is Pisces with Mercury, Uranus and Sun in its first house. Also Mars Neptune in its twelfth house, which is not quite so deadly as having Pluto or Saturn there. Perhaps they will be hurt by injuries. Still they look strong with that stellium in their first house. Advantage: Memphis.

N. Carolina vs Radford. I know, I know, it will not prove anything to pick NC because it is ranked Number One. But anyway, we proceed. NC has Leo rising, opposite Jupiter at the descendant, and trine Venus. Aquarius is Radford, with Jupiter, Mars and Neptune in its first house. Jupiter is inconjunct Saturn and sextile Venus. Mars-Neptune is very unfavorable, with Jupiter magnifying things. Loss of key players to injuries, perhaps. Advantage: North Carolina.

BYU vs Texas A&M. BYU has Cancer rising, trining Mercury-Uranus in the ninth house. Sparkling play, favorable press. Descendant TX A&M is Capricorn, with ruler Saturn in its ninth house. Moon-Pluto in its twelfth; Pluto there is bad. North Node in its first house. Hmm, tough call. Texas may show potential for next year, but might not get too far this year. Advantage: Texas.

Gonzaga vs Akron. Gonzaga has Virgo rising here, with no aspects, although Saturn is in its first house and ruler Muercury in the seventh. Akron is Pisces, with Mars-Neptune in its twelfth house (bad). Probable injuries. But Mercury, Uranus and Sun are in its first house. A tough call but I am going with Akron to overcome its obstacles. Advantage: Akron.

U Conn vs Chattanooga. Leo is U Conn, with an opposition to Neptune in the seventh house. Also an inconjunct to Uranus in the eighth. Hmm, inconjuncts change things around, and Uranus sometimes denotes an upset. Chattanooga is Aquarius, with Mars-Neptune in its first house (bad). Jupiter in its twelfth. Loss of key players probably, and harsh officiating may go against them. Advantage: U Conn.

Illinois vs Western Kentucky. The Illini have Libra rising with ruler, retrograde Venus, opposing them. Also a square to heavyweight Pluto. Western KY has Aries rising and its ruler Mars sextile Pluto. Having the opponents' ruler in your first house is usually a sign that it has its opponent's number. Advantage: Western Kentucky.

Purdue vs Northern Iowa. Purdue has Cancer rising, opposing the Moon at the descendant. Square to Venus in the tenth. Iowa has the ruler of the opponent in its first house, a great indicator of dominance. I call for Iowa to pull an upset.

Clemson vs Michigan. Clemson is Virgo rising, opposing Sun and Uranus at the descendant. Saturn in the twelfth is bad because it could be done in by penalties. Michigan is Pisces, with the Sun in its first house. Again, Mars and Neptune in its twelfth mean losses, possible lost players due to injuries. A very tough call on this game. Advantage: Michigan.

Washington vs Mississippi State. Washington is Leo rising, trine a retrograde Venus. Its ruler the Sun is high in the ninth house. Miss is Aquarius with Jupiter and Neptune in its first house, a mixed bag. North Node in its twelfth house. Hmm. Washington has the advantage, I'd say.

Oklahoma vs Morgan State. The Okies have Libra rising trine Neptune in the fourth house. Morgan is Aries with Mars in the fifth house sextile Pluto in the third. Morgan has ruler Mars in better aspect, while the Okies have ruler Venus in retrograde and square the Moon. Advantage: Morgan State.

Louisville vs Morehead. Louisville is Libra rising, trine Jupiter in the fourth house, a great boon. Morehead has Aries rising, and in this chart Venus is in its twelfth house not in its first. So I see no upset here. Advantage: Louisville.

Oklahoma State vs Tennessee. OK has Cancer rising and trine the Sun and Uranus in the ninth house -- sparkling play again. Tenn has Capricorn as its ascendant, with its ruler Saturn inconjunct Jupiter. The Moon in its twelfth house just means the crowd will not be rooting for it. Very tough to call this matchup. I think the score will be very close. I will just go with the favorite -- Oklahoma.

Ohio State vs Siena. Ohio has Scorpio rising, with a trine to Mercury Uranus in the fourth house, and square to Jupiter in the third house. A lot of press attention for this game, I think. Plus a sextile to Saturn in the tenth house, very auspicious. Siena is Taurus with a trine to Saturn. Ruler Venus is retrograde and in the eleventh house (its fifth). Just because there are more aspects to Ohio, I will go with them.

Pittsburgh vs ETSU. Pittsburgh is Leo rising opposing Neptune at the descendant. A minor aspect to Venus. ETSU is Aquarius with Neptune in its twelfth house, which is not good -- fouls, missed opportunities, crossed signals, etc. Big advantage to Pittsburgh.

Utah vs Arizona. Utah is Libra rising, oppsosing Venus at descendant, sextile the South Node, a minor aspect to Neptune. Arizona is Aries, with its opponents' ruler Venus under control in its first house. Sun, Mercury and Uranus in its twelfth -- chance of lots of lost balls, interceptions, etc. But unheralded Arizona can steal this game.

Xavier vs Portland. Xavier has Virgo rising, conjunct Saturn in the first. Ruler Mercury conjunct Uranus in the seventh house -- not good. Portland is Pisces, Mercury and Uranus in its first house. Mars and Neptune in its twelfth house. Hurt by injuries etc. but I think they can bottle up Xavier. Advantage: Portland.

Wake Forest vs Cleveland State. Wake is Scorpio rising, square Jupiter at the bottom of the chart. Cleveland is Taurus with ruler Venus retrograde in its eleventh -- lots of friends come to root for them. Because Wake's co-rulers are sextile, I give them the advantage. Advantage: Wake Forest.

Florida State vs Wisconsin. Florida has Libra rising, again its ruler is retrograde and at the
descendent. Wisconsin is Aries, with ruler Mars sextile heavyweight Pluto. I see Wisconsin bottling up Florida pretty well. Advantage: Wisconsin.

Kansas vs North Dakota State. Kansas has Cancer rising, square Venus in the tenth house. Its ruler the Moon is in the seventh house, a bad placement. ND is Capricorn rising, with ruler Saturn at its Midheaven. I see North Dakota all over Kansas like chocolate sauce on an ice cream sundae. Advantage: North Dakota State.

West Virginia vs. Daytona. WV has Leo rising, trine venus in the ninth house. Nice national press. Ruler the Sun is in the ninth house also, with Mercury and Uranus near. Daytona has Aquarius rising, with Jupiter, Neptune in its first house. Jupiter is such a great boon, even with Neptune there. They might just benefit from blind luck. The crowd will not like them, tho (Moon in its twelfth house). Advantage: Daytona.

Boston College vs Southern Cal. Boston has Libra rising, opposing the sun at the descendant. It also has a square to Pluto in the fourth house which challenges but also pushes you to do better than your best. So-Cal has Aries rising, with the Sun on its ascendant, and opponent's ruler Venus in its first house -- a bright omen. Mercury and Uranus are in its twelfth house, which may denote lost balls, interceptions, muffed handoffs. Nevertheless, it has ruler Mars sextile Pluto going for it, which is hard to ignore. Advantage: Southern Cal.

Michigan State vs Robert Morris. Mich has the last degree of Libra rising, and a square to the Moon. It also has a trine to Neptune, which could mean inspiring play. Morris has Aries rising with Venus in its twelfth house. The game's first minutes could be of a different quality than the rest of the game. Mich's ascendant will change rapidly to Scorpio, with its co-rulers in sextile aspect. Advantage: Michigan State.

Marquette vs Utah State. Marquette has Scorpio rising, with no aspects. However as we have noted several times, its co-rulers are in sextile (favorable) aspect. Utah has Taurus as its rising sign, with its ruler Venus retrograde in its eleventh, friends and fans. Advantage: Marquette.

Syracuse vs Stephen F Austin. Syracuse has Cancer rising, squaring Venus in the tenth house which is favorable. Also a trine to Mars in the ninth house, which sextiles Pluto. Austin has Capricorn rising, and Pluto in its twelfth house -- very bad! The Moon is in its first, but it is hard to see anyone overcoming a Pluto affliction. This may be tough but I am going with Syracuse.

Missouri vs Cornell. Missouri also has Cancer rising, this time with Mercury and Uranus in the ninth house. Opposing Moon at the descendant. Very mixed. Cornell has capricorn rising, Pluto in its twelfth again, although ruler Saturn is in its ninth house. The elevated Saturn for Cornell is good, the opponent's ruler (Moon) in its first house is good. I may catch heck for this but -- Advantage: Cornell.

Arizona State vs Temple. Arizona has Leo rising with Venus trine in the ninth house -- adoring press. Conjunct the South Node above the horizon. Hmm. Temple has Aquarius with Jupiter in its first house, a hard placement to beat. They'll just be durn lucky, is all. Advantage: Temple.

Astrology and Colors

by Milky Way Maid
While there may be some differences of opinion on what colors are associated with what signs and planets, there is agreement on most issues. Here is a treatment of the color associations, which you may find helpful when drawing up horary charts to try to find lost objects.
Sun: The Sun rules colors of the sun, logically enough. From white to yellow to gold and orange. Some even include the blue at the center of a gas flame.
Moon: Soft white, and the metal silver. Milky white and frosted white. Everybody agrees on this.
Mercury: Two schools of thought on this. Yellow. Sunny yellow to orange. Then the other group gives him light blue or dove gray.
Venus: Two schools of thought on this one. Some say it rules the deep Madonna-blue as in religious paintings. Others say she rules white and purple. Other like her to have the traditional girly pink, too. I have been going with the white and purple; that seems to work for me.
Mars: Red, fire-engine red and cherry red and cardinal red and every shade of red. Some also include tints of red going into rose. Eh, I cannot see Mars in girly pink. Not even a pink shirt.
Jupiter: Sky blue, royal blue. Another school of thought gives him red and green, Christmasy colors, that inspire giving and gifting. Red and green have been working for me, while other planets and signs fight over blue shades.
Saturn: Dark somber colors like black of course, and charcoal and any dark muddy color. Some given him dark greens, but I don't know about that. I suppose olive and hunter greens would fit. Saturn is also metal in general, so a gunmetal gray or steel gray is probably Saturnian.
Uranus: Electric colors. Neon colors. But especially patterned colors like blocks and plaids and checks and so forth.
Neptune: Colors of the deep ocean: sapphire blue, teal blue, aquamarine, seafoam, and turquoise. Any watery blues and greens.
Pluto: Black again. Bold color combos like red and black. Dark hues in general like maroon.
Aries: White with red. Or red alone. Aries like at least a little bit on red on clothing or jewelry, or a red purse and shoes.
Taurus: White and/or lemon yellow. Some assign Taurus deep blues like the Madonna blue mentioned above. Lots of Taureans seem to feel more relaxed with blue in their homes and surroundings so humor them.
Gemini: White and/or orange.
Cancer: Green and russet. Colors of food, hmm?
Leo: Red and/or green again. Leo really likes strong colors, none of those wishy-washy pastels for him. Or her.
Virgo: Speckled patterns, including polka dots. Black and white only, like those smart-looking dresses at the Ascot races.
Libra: Pastels and all art tints. Light blues and rose.
Scorpio: Dark colors from black to charcoal to dark brown, plus maroon.
Sagittarius: Yellow and green, the colors of the fields and forest.
Capricorn: Black and dark brown. Power suit colors, you know?
Aquarius: Sky blue, baby blue, light turquoise. Also colors you would paint metal, the grayed tints and metallic silver. Metallic colors in general.
Pisces: Turquoise, but ocean colors in general.

Your Milky Way Horoscope March 15-21

By Milky Way Maid

And Happy starry St. Paddy's Day to you! I see a stressful day of squares to the Uranus-Saturn opposition, so people might drink even harder than usual after work. Find something to thank your stars for, whether it is being born Irish, or marrying that fine person, or having such good parents, or belonging to such a loving mutt.

The Sun enters Aries on Friday. Happy Birthday to all you Arians, who love to come first in anything. To Friends of Arians: tell them they are first in your heart, and you will win them over.

Mars entered Pisces on Sat., March 14. Mars here favors water sports or just laying by the pool. Mars in Pisces is best expressed as offering spiritual insight and solutions to problems; you can raise everyone's spiritual awareness. The tendency is to think that only you are at a higher level, and that you can look down on everyone else. Learn to accept the input of others to arrive at a best resolution of a conflict.

Mercury and Uranus are conjunct in psychic Pisces on Saturday (1 am Eastern) thru Monday. If you want to stay up Friday, it is great for brainstorming. Keep a paper and pen handy to jot down ideas for later. Write down dreams, too, and check out possible meanings in good dream books like Wilda Tanner's The Mystical Magical Marvelous World of Dreams.
Readers can follow not only their Sun sign horoscope but also the sign of their Ascendant for further clues to how your week will develop.

ARIES - March 20-April 19 – The Sun enters your sign, and that is always a source of a new burst of energy and direction. Make an agenda for spring tasks you wish to accomplish to focus your energy. Venus retrograde is giving you an opportunity to examine what you value in life really. It also may prompt you into a bit of a makeover; collect ideas on updating your haircut and coloring and act when Venus goes direct mid-April. Venus in Aries is the signature of barbers and hair stylists, so if you have that placement natally, you may feel prompted to look into training for a career cutting hair.

TAURUS - April 20-May 20 – You and Libra are affected by Venus' retrograde more than most, because it is your ruling planet. You may splurge on small indulgences, and this is better than pigging out while wallowing in self-pity. At least Libra is more proactive, and you would benefit by taking the bull by the horns, too (so to speak, LOL). Perhaps a friend at school offers help or ideas; even if you only shoot the breeze together, you will feel less abandoned. Your best ally right now is Vesta in your sign; she prompts you to just keep on chopping wood, carrying water as you keep your inner balance.

GEMINI - May 21-June 20 – Your ruler Mercury opposes Saturn on Wednesday night. Harness that mental discipline to plow thru spreadsheets and other data; research your term papers and other presentations; set up more effective email merge lists. Mercury is conjunct Uranus Sunday; while this is good for wordplay and enjoying a good comedy, it also can feed some surprising psychic moments. Because it is in your solar tenth house of career, you might get an insight into a career move. Dreams could be vivid so keep a pad and pen by the nightstand.

CANCER - June 21-July 22 – If you are in the education or legal fields, the Mercury opposition to Saturn on Wednesday night can bring successful progress to a course or case (that is, if you have made a concerted effort). Also research and number-crunching, analysis of spreadsheets or annual reports can be be very productive and bring insights. Mars enters Pisces, trining your Sun from your solar ninth house. This also brings determined energy to ninth house issues (law, education, publishing, religion). Those in the brokering and advising fields also may gain more business.

LEO - July 23-Aug. 22 – Your ruling planet the Sun enters Aries on Friday. That means it trines your natal Sun, and generally the month is a good, productive one for you. The Sun will be in your solar ninth house of publishing, law, higher education and religion. Whatever you have on the agenda in those areas may need some work to bring it to fruition – and retrograde Venus there may or not be a help. What kind of values is the project or plan based on? Venus is values and demands compliance with the greater good.

VIRGO - Aug. 23-Sept. 22 – Ceres in your sign is trined by Pluto on Sunday; it's good for gardening (rototilling) and also for a real heart-to-heart with your children. Mars opposes Ceres on Wednesday, which tends to produce friction and argument with a child or mother; back off on the criticism. Mercury opposes your Saturn that evening; so work on anything that requires mental sharpness and discipline.

LIBRA - Sept. 23-Oct. 22 – Your ruler Venus continues to retrograde, however it semi-sextiles Mercury this week. Take the opportunity to examine your investments, record art work and update lists of valuables in case of loss/damage. Update insurance coverage. You might be really stressed by everything going on, but avoid sitting home nibbling sweets; you thrive on public contact so look for some job (paid or volunteer) where you can do that. This may include giving lessons in art or other skills you are very good at.

SCORPIO - Oct. 23-Nov. 21 – The Moon is in Scorpio from the the previous Friday till early Monday. The Moon squares Jupiter late Saturday, suggesting you overdid something (celebrating St. Pat's a wee early, hmm?). Working up a sweat early Sunday will help get the toxins out of your system. An evening soak in a hot tub, with the old reliable Epsom salts, will help sore muscle aches. Spend quality time with one of the kids that night. The second half of the week features a sextile between co-rulers Mars and Pluto; they're in your solar third (siblings) and fifth (children) houses so possibly relatives (male) can assist you in some project. Call in your markers.

SAGITTARIUS - Nov. 22-Dec. 21 – The Moon is in Sag from early Monday till Wednesday afternoon. You might be all fired up about something Monday (maybe about growing a victory garden) but stop, do some study on what grows best in your area. It will save having to redo all your plans. Tuesday a local vendor may be able to give you a better deal than some faceless webpage; support the local economy. The evening can be frustrating because you run into that Uranus-Saturn opposition in some way; home and career can pull you in opposite directions. Wednesday midday poses a family challenge; you may have to dash home or take a call.

CAPRICORN - Dec. 22-Jan. 19 – The Moon is in Capricorn from Wednesday afternoon till early Saturday. A Moon-Pluto conjunction sextiles Mars in Pisces; it favors research, investigation and weeding out files or drawers. Thursday has a Moon-Venus square; it's OK to ask for affection and assurance from your loved ones. And touch base with those in your circle of support. Friday you will probably have a pile of work to get out before the weekend; pace yourself. The evening favors relaxing with a comedy, computer games, or foreign films.

AQUARIUS - Jan. 20-Feb. 17 – The Moon is in Aquarius from early Saturday thru the weekend. Get together early Saturday with a friend (Moon sextile Sun in your solar eleventh house). You might spend part of the day also plotting a garden or prepping the soil. That evening you might chat with a bosom buddy late into the night. Sunday will be spent creatively adjusting walls or boundaries; perhaps you are altering a new living space to suit to. Mars enters your solar second house of money, which is not a good place; be especially conscious of managing debts and avoiding fees. On the other hand, you might look for fees you can charge others for your services.

PISCES - Feb. 18-March 19 – Mercury in Pisces opposes Saturn on Wednesday night; you gain insights if you sit down and analyze papers. Mars, having just entered your sign, sextiles Pluto the same day/night; this also supports analysis, research, number-crunching. Mercury is conjunct Uranus in Pisces on Sunday; sudden insights and even psychic moments can strike and illuminate your situation.

Dream about Obama: “If he is not spared...”

by Milky Way Maid

Have you had a dream about our new president? Apparently lots of people feel so connected to Barack Obama, and/or to his wife Michelle, that they have invited him into their dream lives. I had NO idea this phenomenon was going on, till I happened upon a website where someone is collecting all these stories to put together as a book.
Yes, go check out It carries this notice:
I'm editing a book of dreams about Barack Obama, to be published in 2009, co-edited by Irene Webb. If you have had a dream in which Barack appeared, please visit our new website to submit it.
So anyway one of the more notable dreams featured there is Obama on an elevator with a woman who happens to be a new mom in real life. She dreams that Obama fills two bottles with breast milk on their quick ride to the tenth floor. (No, she does not see breasts, just the pumping machine with the hose and bottles.)
I will get to the dream referred to in the title in a moment but I first want to do a short take on the symbols in this potent dream.
Milk: nourishment, of course, but also “milk of human kindness”.
Elevator: Literally being lifted up.
Ten: New start with expectation of success. A traditional amount of increase; example, what you give away will return tenfold.
So it is interesting that these symbols come together to signify, approximately: Obama lifts up the country with his example of kindness. What he gives away to us will return the country to abundance (tenfold increase).

Another dreamer in North Carolina dreamed that she saw him speak during the summer campaign. “I saw Obama standing in a large crowd. He had a brilliant silver band that goes around the waist that sort of resembles a cummerbund. But larger than a cummerbund, more like armor that covered his chest, too. He was speaking to the crowd, which was very close to him. Then I heard: If this man is spared, the whole nation will be spared. If this man is not spared, the whole nation will not be spared. She says she woke up crying, and from then on started praying for the protection of Obama and his family.”

The metallic cummerbund/shield could represent the body armor that he began wearing; in fact, we now know that he wore a special suit on suit inauguration day. Silver also symbolizes spiritual light, justice, purity.
The closeness to the crowd represents the closeness that many people feel to him personally (and also to his family); they identify with him, and they believe he understands what they are dealing with.
The message coming from an unidentified voice: wow. I don't want to sound too new-agey nor too skeptical. But a voice is often an intuitive message from your subconscious, or your Higher Self or guide (whichever term you are comfortable with).
The specific message refers all too obviously to those who have tried to plan assassination attempts. More than one plot has been broken up already. And almost daily we read of hate groups attracting followers.
It would do well for all of us to pray for the safety of the first family, because the fate of a country and of its leaders is inextricably intertwined not just materially, but spiritually too. Even though the dream is from last summer, the threats to Obama and family are a continual thing. So keep mentioning them in your prayers or keeping them in your thoughts. Thank you.

Your Milky Way Horoscope March 8-14

By Milky Way Maid

Mars is conjunct Neptune in Aquarius early Sunday morning. I don't expect anyone to jump out of bed that day ready to do chores; this is a lazy, energy-sapping aspect. All you will want to do is reset your clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Then the Sun opposes Saturn about midday Sunday. Pisces/Virgo people will be prone to hiding in their own cocoons, but they need to communicate their needs. This is an aspect where people have differing needs, schedules, and deadlines. Just put your head up and let your mate know what's happening.
Mercury enters Pisces. It's a time for digesting what you hear and read, rather than chattering on about the latest news and gossip. But the downside is that Mercury here wallows in self-pity and nightmarish what-ifs, imagining all the things that could go wrong. She's got to get a grip on herself and deliberately affirm her faith. (I don't mean necessarily church-faith, just faith that she can handle whatever comes.)
Venus went retrograde last Friday at 12:17 pm Eastern Time. She will be retrograde till April 17, when she will open up her purse and wallet again, ready to buy. Retrograde in Aries, Venus is impatient, wastes her energies on short-lived romances to shore up his/her self-esteem, and can be overly competitive when a relationship should be cooperative. When Venus goes direct here, Aries shows his superior leadership ability and forges a path in the darkness; Aries shows how self-reliance works. (Venus will dip into the end of Pisces when she turns around; Piscean ability to use compassion and unconditional love to repair morale will be key.)
Readers can follow not only their Sun sign horoscope but also the sign of their Ascendant for further clues to how your week will develop.

ARIES - March 20-April 19 – Transiting Venus in your sign went retrograde last Friday March 6, at fifteen degrees Aries. Aries hates it when anything goes backward, they want to charge forward no matter what. This will frustrate you on a personal level. Try not to take things out on people near and dear to you. Patience, patience. See note above on Venus in Aries. Later in the week you can chat with an advisor (perhaps from among your sibs or neighbors) about what strategies you might employ.

TAURUS - April 20-May 20 – The Venus retrograde is in your twelfth; try not to sabotage your finances because you're panicky over what comes next. Instead try having fun finding the biggest bargains. Hold onto your cash, just track prices and swoop in when it meets your conservative right-price. Because Venus is your ruler, her retrograde can affect your situation and emotions personally. Asteroid Juno squares Vesta in your sign; if your have an op to schmooze privately with the boss' wife this week then do so.

GEMINI - May 21-June 20 – Are you looking at an older house this week? Maybe you like doing fixer-uppers, but I would pass on it. If you have been waiting for monies in regard to insurance or estate matters, that may be settled by mid-March. Mars enters your tenth house of career; it brings energy but can bring friction and argument, too. Competition helps drain off the excess Mars energy. Venus retrograde affects your friends, making them less available to go out with you. Find free stuff to do together.

CANCER - June 21-July 22 – Venus' retrograde is more challenging for Cancerians due to the square aspect. You are really stressed if anything happens to your cash supply, etc. and tend to eat/drink yourself into a stupor. And you're frustrated because there is really nothing you can do except – keep watching for dirt cheap prices on the market (stocks or any other goods). You will be scooping them up with both claws before you know it. Just not this week. Mars enters Pisces, in the house of higher education; while it is good your child is going on to school, it means loans and fees. Ask a ton of questions at the school so you know what to expect.

LEO - July 23-Aug. 22 – The Moon is in Leo from Sunday till mid-morning Monday. You are a generous person normally, but if someone demands you give something, you rebel. That's natural. Sunday, someone may try to demand you give something, and that won't work. But communicate everyone's needs and schedules, so you can adjust pickup times for example. Monday the Moon opposes Mars and Neptune early; you feel picked on and irritable, moody, confused. Brush off those negative thoughts. Literally, it can help to use a lint brush all over your suit and coat.

VIRGO - Aug. 23-Sept. 22 – The Moon is in Virgo from mid-morning Monday till midday Wednesday. Monday aspects favor research and auditing, things where you dig down under the surface. Tuesday can bring some good news if you are willing to adjust to circumstances. The afternoon is more nose-to-the-grindstone stuff, altho a partner or spouse may feel neglected. Have a small tea snack together when you come in late, when you can chat about the day.

LIBRA - Sept. 23-Oct. 22 – The Moon is in Libra from midday Wednesday till Friday evening. Wednesday features a bit of a tussle between your needs and that of family, with someone trying to control the situation (probably not you). Thursday looks better for cooperative efforts and communication, plus enjoyment and creative projects; the Moon trines Jupiter in the fun-n-entertainment fifth house. Friday morning calls for creative adjustments, with those in the dance field feeling particularly good about their progress that day.

SCORPIO - Oct. 23-Nov. 21 – The Moon is in Scorpio from Friday evening thru the weekend. Friday night is all yours, with a sextile between the Moon and ruler Pluto; indulge in a mystery book or movie, or research papers or hunt for new recipes. Saturday is fun, you might enjoy a short trip or writing (Moon trine Mercury). It also helps your mental powers so tackle any analysis or mental games. Avoid overdoing anything that night, due to the Jupiter square.

SAGITTARIUS - Nov. 22-Dec. 21 – Poor Saggy, Venus has gone retrograde in his love house (the fifth). Sag is never too concerned when one liaison breaks up because there are plenty more wannabes lined up out the door. But I wish you would take things more seriously, Sag; one day you will not be so young and cute anymore and then who will listen to your travelogues? The Sun and Uranus are conjunct in your fourth house (home, family) on Thursday; it's a day to break out of your rut otherwise it tends to produce accidents.

CAPRICORN - Dec. 22-Jan. 19 – As usual you have a million things going on in your second house of money/property. On Tuesday, Mercury brings important news and messages of all kinds. Wednesday's Moon is more emotional and challenging. Thursday is most favorable for any career or business dealings, with Jupiter trining the Moon. Friday's Moon is more favorable for an evening out with the lady who owns your heart.

AQUARIUS - Jan. 20-Feb. 17 – Mars is conjunct Neptune in your sign on Sunday; this aspect tends to sap your energies so don't expect to run as far on your jog, etc. You might even feel like hiding under the covers. On Wednesday the women in your life will be called on to help adjust details (personal or things related to insurance, wills, loans, etc.). Thursday afternoon is favorable for everything. Friday you may be a little too indulgent of another's request.

PISCES - Feb. 18-March 19 – The Sun joins Uranus in your sign; that aspect calls on you to break out of your rut, otherwise it does that for you, by force. It tends to produce accidents if you cling to your routine too tightly. And lucky you, Venus goes retrograde in your second house of money; wherever you are wasteful and impatient, you will pay a price so stick to that budget and shopping list. Mercury also enters your sign which can help you sell things if that is what you have to do to meet obligations.
